Suzanne Grégoire

Training, Certificates, & Awards

As a child Suzanne trained in classical ballet at the Ballet Russe in New York City, and later with distinguished and beloved Ballet Master Alfredo Corvino and his daughters, Andra and Ernesta Corvino. After majoring in dance at Kirkland College she continued her training at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center and the Merce Cunningham School. Passionate about learning dances from different parts of the world, she has studied Indian classical dance, Argentine tango and Latin dance, among others.

 

Suzanne is a TM practitioner as well as an RYT200 registered Yoga Alliance teacher. She holds additional certifications in Movement-Mindfulness and Yoga for Children with Special Needs. Her classes are taught in English or French. 

 

She has been awarded Choreography Fellowships from The Joyce Mertz Gilmore Foundation and the New York State Council on the Arts.

About

Suzanne Grégoire is an experienced Dance, Yoga and Movement educator dedicated to working with children, teenagers and adults. She has taught in the United States, Europe and Southeast Asia. Her teachings afford diverse students and clients chances to nurture their bodies and minds through inspiring participation, as well as inclusion. Because movement in and of itself is a universal form of communication, Suzanne’s instruction encourages all students to develop and express their innate abilities in a fun, joyful environment. 

 

Suzanne maintains a private teaching practice in New York City. Her varied clientele includes serious-minded Ballet students, adults pursuing Restorative Yoga, Adaptive Dance and Yoga practitioners with special needs, and office professionals seeking lunch-hour conditioning sessions. 

 

Since 1991 Suzanne has been a faculty member of the Kaufman Music Center in New York City where she teaches group Ballet, Musical Theater and Dance Composition classes. She has produced numerous student ballets and original musicals at the center’s Merkin Concert Hall. Additionally, she has designed and choreographed Yoga and Dance programs for varied groups including individuals in schools, nursing homes and special needs activity centers.

 

In her ongoing commitment to diversity and cultural exchange, Suzanne is a proud teaching artist for the Global Children’s Art Programme (glocap.org) where she has collaborated on dance and art workshops for the Children’s Shelter Foundation in Northern Thailand. 

 

She has extensive experience designing private and group classes for students with learning and mobility differences and initiated Adaptive Dance and Yoga programs at the IDEAL School of Manhattan, a private inclusion school where she taught for eleven years. 

 

From 1988-1999 Suzanne was the Artistic Director of Cirque Grégoire, a dance/theatre and special events company that performed nationwide and presented repertoire in Moscow, Russia as part of an international cultural exchange.
